LOS ANGELES — An 11-year-old Woodland Hills boy who came from Iran four years ago has gained admission to Cal State Los Angeles and plans to earn three doctorates -- in math, physics and cosmology, it was reported today.
Omid
Golmohammadi, a fifth-grader at Serrania Avenue Elementary, gained entrance
to Cal State L.A. through its Pre-Accelerated College Enrollment or PACE
program, the Daily News reported. He also has been named an extraordinary
performer in Johns Hopkins University's math-verbal skills talent search.
Cal State L.A. offers early admission to about 300 students a
year, based on high test scores. Most of them are in high school, take one or
two college classes in the summer, then return to their own schools in the fall.
Omid told the Daily News he is delaying his admission to the PACE
program until next summer because of a previously scheduled trip to Iran this
year.
Omid has had some preparation for the attention he's likely to get
as the little man on campus
He and his family immigrated from Iran four years ago, and he
faced the challenge of learning English.
"When I went into the classroom, 21 pairs of eyes were locked on
me. It was freaky," he told the Daily News.
